A factsheet of the European Commission – November 2020

“Gender equality is a core principle of the European Union, but it is not yet a reality. In business, politics and society as a whole, we can only reach our full potential if we use all of our talent and diversity. Using only half of the population, half of the ideas or half of the energy is not good enough”

European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen

“Violence against women and girls is a violation of human rights, and has no place in the European Union, or anywhere else in the world.

The COVID-19 pandemic has shown once more that for some women not even their home is a safe place.

Change is possible, but it requires action, commitment and determination. The EU is committed to continue to work tirelessly with its partners to investigate and punish acts of violence, ensure support for victims, and at the same time to address the root causes and reinforce the legal framework”

European Commission and High Representative/Vice-President,

Josep Borrell
